Wealth is on the rise and the newly minted are facing a dire crisis - a shortage of butlers. A dying profession no more. The International Butler Academy in the Netherlands and Starkey International's Butler Boot Camp, are just two organizations helping to reduce this shortage. Today's butlers (or household managers, as they are increasingly called in the United States) are not mere servants, they are the "CEOs" of their employers' households and taking care of every detail - like ensuring that their bosses wake up every morning to a home computer already running and loaded with their websites of choice.
As demand soars, so do the salaries. Well-groomed butlers, who, depending on the household, dress in either business attire or the classic tuxedo, now make annually salaries up to $200,000 annually - along with room and board, benefits and a 401(k). And the right accent can earn you even more - British butlers in New York can easily make an extra $10,000 to $20,000 based purely on their accent. At these going rates, many might consider a career change.
