Service :: Destinations and Service: Mexico Does it Right
Having just returned from Los Cabos, I was reminded how warm, friendly and accommodating the service is in Mexican resorts. Over a year ago, I was at a Travel Weekly sponsored forum of leading tour operators which feature Mexico. The consensus was that service is a strong point of the Mexican tourism product.
Undoubtedly. On my last trip I observed the interaction between tourists and service personnel at restaurants and hotels. At a beach restaurant, the waiters instinctively knew how to strike a balance between engaging patrons, much as a friend would, and knowing when to disengage if their clients wanted privacy. One asks directions of the cleaning staff in the lobby and they personally take you to where you're going. Want something that isn't on the menu? No problem. If it's in the kitchen, you'll get it. And I'm referring to a four star hotel. Never once do I get the impression that a waiter, hotel staff or airport employee has problems at home or with an employer. There's almost always a smile, a "Buenos dias", a helping hand. Felicitaciones!
