Trends :: Literally Popping Up All Over

Pop Up retail experiences (temporary spaces with one-off exhibitions, which have the tendency to pop up unannounced, quickly draw in the crowds, and then disappear or morph into something else) add a fresh feel, exclusivity and surprise. Although the concept hit the scene a few years ago, it's still going strong. It has even lured travel brands into the concept.

In October, Delta Air Lines brought the pop-up flight experience to the streets of New York City with Delta SKY360 - a multidimensional lounge in the heart of Manhattan to showcase key elements of Delta's unique in-flight experience and worldwide destinations. Visitors could stop by to check out the airlines new seats (such as their all-leather coach class seats and their Business Elite flat seats), new menu and other features.

Spanish company Hotel Movil took pop-up retail a bit further with their luxury pop-up hotels (I know, this sounds like an oxymoron). Large truck trailers can be dragged to any location and turned into a hotel within 30 minutes. Contrary to what you might think, these hotels are quite luxurious on the inside, providing ensuite bathrooms, plasma screen, dvd players and internet access for each room. Some trailers can even include a bar and a movie room. The second floor of the hotel provides luxurious suites with terraces and a shared sundeck. The two-level hotels consist of 11 rooms and can sleep up to forty people. Perfect for wedding parties, reunions and even luxury camping trips.

And this pop-up experience doesn't come cheap. Prices start at EUR 7000 for a weekend. If you are thinking of something a bit more long term, you could buy a hotel for around EUR 400,000.
