Eco-friendly weddings are nothing new these days, as couples are opting for organic food at receptions, invitations made of recycle paper, and hybrid getaway cars.
But now, there are "green" wedding bands made of conflict free diamonds and recycled gold, metals and stones. The company Green Karat will fashion your wedding rings from old jewelry donated by friends and family or from their own pot of recycled gold. Reusing gold means lessening the demand for additional mining.
California-based Dawes Design recently launched a new line of socially and environmentally responsible rings, offering a stylish alternative to traditional wedding bands. Brilliant Earth uses certified conflict free diamonds from Canada and will donate 5% of their profits to help local African communities.
Should you decide to get rid of your ring(s), you can still help the environment by donating it back to some of these companies.
