Trends :: Private jet tours expected to grow

Luxury jet-setters have been turning to private jet travel for some time now, for its time savings and convenience (it better accommodates schedules, avoid long lines and security hassles). Despite rising fuel costs and aviation industry woes, sales of top-end private jets are surging.

At the highest ends of the private jet market, the Aerion Supersonic Business Jet, will be the first private plane to fly at 1.6 Mach, and it has just been purchased by Sheikh Rashid, the ruler of Dubai. It can fly from Paris to New York in just over 4 hours and comes with an $80,000,000 price tag. Not far behind, the Gulfstream G650 jet will fly nearly as fast at .85 Mach, and will have a nautical range of 7,000 nautical miles meaning it can fly nonstop from Los Angeles to London. The plane will cost $59.5 million and according to Gulfstream, the demand is so high for its new G650, that angry billionaires are being told they have to wait until 2020 or later for theirs.

Private jet tour companies (which are growing by the day) are cashing in on this trend and offering direct travel from country to country by private jet to some of the most remote and exotic destinations on earth. Luxury tour operator Abercrombie and Kent reports that it is expanding its private jet tours to include Cultural Treasures - an Around the World journey by private jet. It explores everything from the siege of Leningrad with a man who survived it; to walking between the grooves left by chariots 2,000 years ago in the Roman remains at Jerash. With their creative itineraries, adventures, exclusive on-board educational programs, and yet unsurpassed service and accommodations, private jet travel is creating a new niche for a one-of-a-kind travel experiences.
